One Week

Okay so I didn't do such a great job last week posting every day.  This week I will strive for 100% posting!

Res 8.0

So I'm doing well on about a third of my Res 8.0 and not so much on the other two-thirds...that's not too bad.  I did attend volunteer training at the Humane Society on Saturday.  Volunteering is in the top 4, so far so good.  No texting and no Facebook are in the #1 and #2 slot, check and check on those.  Note:  The no texting is me initiating the text, I will still respond to text though...I'm getting there...

Heavy Heart

Did you hear about the school shooting in Omaha yesterday?  The boy who shot his principal and assistant principle was the son of a gal that tailgates with us in Lincoln at the Husker games.  I feel so bad for that family, the boy, that school and the victims.  Could you imagine what that mom must be going through right now?  Her son killed himself after he left the school.  I heard on the news this morning that the assistant principal has died and the principle is still in critical conditions.  Stories like this make it hard to get through the day.
Mr Barrett sent an email this morning with a photo of a dog named Lucy, a 6 year old black lab, who needs a home.  Her owner passed away and Lucy has no where to go.  I try not to let stuff like this get me down, there are so many things in the world that are sad.  Does anyone else struggle not to be upset or really bothered by stuff like this?

Misc

Went to the gym for the first time in 2011.  I was stunned that it wasn't crowded.  Usually every January the gym is packed.  Even the group exercise classes didn't seem that over attended.  Don't know if that says something about my gym or the economy?  Got a good workout in though... Mr Barrett is home sick today.  I always feel so bad for him when he's sick... don't want to get sick myself though!  When I had strep throat, was it May time frame, that was the worst EVER.  I think I'll take some extra vitamins RIGHT NOW.

The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks

[Cover]
I believe I sent an email out about this book by Rebecca Skloot.  Please read it.  It's worth your time, even if you don't read it cover to cover (though you should, even though I'm not one to judge because I've been know to read more than half way, flip to the end and return to the library).  I'll be making more book recommendations, so watch for them.  I also am going to keep track of how many books I read this year- which I've never done before.  I've estimated but have never tracked... btw, that's not one of the Resol 8.0

Way To Start The New Year...

So Saturday 1/1 my washing machine decided it wanted to take up smoking...After conferring with my father-in-law (who just made the washer/dryer purchase within the last year), I made a trip to the nearest Lowe's (Liberty) to purchase a new washer and dryer.  Yes this photo is of the WONDERFUL Lowe's employee who helped me make this purchase.  Note the name listed on his name tag.  Yes, it's Fenton.  Can you believe that?  Human Fenton told me I need to bring dog Fenton by to meet him sometime!!  Second note:  Purchased a front loading machine and dog Fenton is scared of it...)

Inaugural Post

Some of you are familiar with a few (or all) of my 8 New Year's Resolutions... yes I have 8 of them.  You can imagine Mr Barrett's reaction... if you guessed a bit of an eye roll you'd be correct.  Mr Barrett has been very supportive of my New Year's Resolution 8.0- thanks Honey!!

I figured a great way to stay true to Resolution 8.0 is to write about and generally track my progress.  There are a few blogs that I read every day, so I thought WHY NOT BLOG IT?!?

So here I am... we'll see how it goes
